Good links with local employers result in better pupil motivation, aspiration and achievement.  True or False?

All the evidence says it’s true.  Successful work-related learning can have a real impact on motivation, aspiration and attainment, regardless of age or ability.

Following the recommendations from the National Council for Educational Excellence, school leadership teams and governing bodies are being asked to identify somebody specifically responsible for employer links.  Schools and colleges are working hard to improve their partnerships with brokers and local employers to give their pupils more opportunities for a well-rounded and engaging curriculum.

The Institute for Education Business Excellence (IEBE) can help you to achieve these goals.

Schools and individuals can both become members of the Institute.  IEBE membership will actively support your work towards three of the Every Child Matters Outcomes:

  • Enjoy and Achieve
  • Make a Positive Contribution
  • Achieve Economic Well-being

It will also assist your school-based self review process / SEF as it addresses the ECM outcomes.

Member Benefits for Schools and Colleges

The IEBE offers advice, information and support in planning and making the most of partnerships with business.  As a member, schools and colleges will gain:

  • The opportunity to network with other schools and professionals
  • Access to virtual support, resources and guidance on areas like employer engagement, CRB and improving your ‘welcome matt’ for employers
  • Access to advice and best practice on work-related learning and enterprise provision
  • Access to training events and conferences at reduced rates
  • The opportunity to shape thinking on work-related learning and other employer partnership activities
  • Public recognition for your commitment to improving the learning outcomes for your students through employer engagement
  • A voice for your profession

“The most important thing we do here at Cecil Jones College is to prepare students to be effective and successful in the workplace, and that goes beyond their academic achievements.  We work hard to give students the opportunities to develop leadership and interpersonal skills, to nurture their ambition and to put their learning into relevant and real life contexts.

"I believe our membership of IEBE will help us to work more closely with the world of business to create these exciting opportunities to give our students the head start they deserve.

Doug Nichols, Headteacher, Cecil Jones College, specialising in Business and Enterprise

Schools joining the IEBE this year pay £240 for annual membership and individuals pay just £25.
