Code of Conduct for Assessors PDF Print E-mail

Assessors must uphold the highest professional standards in their work, and ensure that staff of the EBPO are treated fairly and have the opportunity to benefit from the assessment visit. Assessors are required to:

- evaluate objectively, be impartial, with no sectoral bias, and have no connection with the EBPO being visited which could undermine their objectivity;
- report honestly, ensuring that judgements are fair and reliable;
- carry out their work with integrity, treating all those they meet with courtesy and sensitivity;
- do all they can to minimise the stress on those involved in the assessment visit, taking account of their best interests and well-being;
- offer NO financial or legal advice as this will invalidate indemnity insurance;
- maintain purposeful and productive dialogue with those being assessed, and communicate judgements clearly and frankly;
- respect the confidentiality of information, particularly about individuals and their work;
- come to assessment visits well prepared, having read pre-visit documentation;
- dress in a professional manner and be punctual.

In addition, it is expected that EBPO staff will be courteous and helpful to visiting assessors.

Please note that under the terms of the DCSF contract, IEBE is responsible for providing consultancy to EBPOs which need support in preparing for accreditation. Trained assessors are therefore not permitted to offer independent consultancy support direct to EBPOs.
